I chose to cover the K-2 benchmarks. One that stood out to me was the first standard which was communication and collaboration and modeling and simulations. Essentially, for the communication and collaboration standard the student needs to be able to differentiate between multiple digital tools that can be used for communication or collaboration, perform searches of basic keywords and communicate information with others, collaborate with others to solve problems using technology, and give and receive constructive criticism on a collaborated project. For the modeling and simulations standard the student needs to be able to define simulation and understand the concepts presented by a simple simulation, explain how models and simulations are used solve real issues regarding science and engineering, explain how models can represent real systems, and use models to come up with solutions to questions alone and with others. Based on my current skill set, I believe that I could implement these standards because of my knowledge of technology inside and outside of the classroom.
Original student tutorials can be extremely useful in the classroom in that they allow students to watch an interactive video that still touches on the ELA requirements of the state. It can be more entertaining for students in 2nd grade, as they are not just focusing on the instructor for the entirety of the lesson. Lesson plans are an essential resource that they provide in that all teachers must have them in order to create their lessons. It provides an outline of what standards should be met and what activities are being used to achieve those standards.
It is important as a teacher to be proficient in internet sheathing because you need to ensure that the information that you find is reliable. Having the ability to recognize when the information that a website is providing you is accurate is essential when using online resources. I think the skill that I learned about this week that I will use the most often moving forward would be that of Googles option to exclude words in searches. This would be extremely useful when looking up general words or topics that could have multiple meanings.
